The Match King: Ivar Kreuger, The Financial Genius Behind a Century of Wall Street Scandals

The Match King by Frant Partnoy

read September 2009

Before Bernie Madoff there was Ivar Kreuger. I check this book out of the library because Jon Stewart had the author on his show, and it looked interesting. It was interesting. I'm glad I read it, because it's not something I would've normally grabbed at the library. Had a little too much financial detail for my taste. True, that's pretty much what the book was about, but I like the story behind the story part of biographies. Know what I mean? One of the reviews on Goodreads.com says this: "Interesting read...probably would have been better as a magazine article than an entire book though." Yeah - that's pretty much how I feel. Worth getting from the library, but I wouldn't buy it.

The Time Traveler's Wife

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

read August 2009

Hmmmm....Well.....I wanted to love this book. I really, really did. Several of my friends recommended it and I've heard nothing but good things about it. I was excited when my friend, Mandy, picked it for our September book club selection. I went to Barnes & Noble lickety split to pick up a copy and settled in for a good read. But, honestly, I was a little disappointed. Sure, the book was pretty easy to get into and it was definitely interesting. I just didn't love it, and I'm not really sure why. I think it was a little sad, but I'm all good with a proper tear-jerker. This one just didn't do it for me. I'll be interested to see what the bc ladies have to say about this. I've heard the movie is EXCELLENT - a great date movie. Maybe this is one of the few times where the movie is actually better than the book! There are a lot of mixed reviews out there (www.amazon.com and www.goodreads.com) that echo how I feel about the book.

New Blog!

For a few years now I have tried to keep a journal of books that I have read. I love books. Always have, according to my mother. In fact she often says, "I must have done at least one thing right, because you and your sister are such good readers"! Seriously? My parents have done sooo many things right, which is why this statement is just almost absurd.

But, anywho.... I figured that it may be time to start a new blog all about books. I don't really care if anyone reads it. It's mostly for me and a few close friends of mine that are also book whores. By the way, blogger address I really wanted was taken already, so I had to go with www.bookwhore-erin.blogspot.com!
